The West Liberty Area Arts Council is proud to host its annual Plein Air event this August 1st and 2nd in West Liberty.
Prizes are as follow:
– 1st: $500
– 2nd: $200
We’re also happy to announce two new prizes this year:
– Artists Award: $200
– People’s Choice award of $200.
With everyone’s health and safety in mind, we are doing online registration and no in-person gallery exhibit. Instead we will offer an online exhibit and remote judging.
Registration is $30 for up to 2 paintings submitted, and $10 for each additional painting.
*Note: If we do not have enough registrants by Thursday night, 7/30, we reserve the right to cancel this event and refund any registrations.
Plein Air (French for “open air”) painting refers to the practice of painting outdoors and utilizing natural light, whatever it may be on any given day. The practice was popularized by the French Impressionists and their desire to capture the changing light. In recent years Plein Air events have become popular in the U.S.
Event Details & Rules
Participants will bring their blank canvasses to Wolf Shelter in Kimberly Park between 8-10 AM on Saturday, August 1st to get them stamped. Only stamped canvasses will be eligible for judging.
Participants may paint anywhere in and around the West Liberty area.
Finished paintings shall be brought to Wolf Shelter at 4 PM on Sunday, August 2nd. We will have a station set up to take a picture of the painting, and your painting will be returned to you right after. Due to our setup this year we will NOT require paintings to be framed.
Judging will take place over the following week, and winners will be announced on Sunday, August 9th.
Pictures of paintings will be posted on our Facebook page for public viewing. The People’s Choice Award will be awarded to the painting with the most likes by Saturday, August 8th at 4 PM.
